After bragging about how beautiful, young, funny, kind hearted, pleasant, treasure-ous, intelligent, caring, down to earth, trendy and simply the best nanny any girl of my age could have for all these years.. Petal very suddenly passed away mid August because of lung cancer and it has been the most heartbreaking thing ever to see my nanny so ill when she just wanted to jump around take buddy for a walk, go to the carboots and charity shops and find loads of bargains, sell at the craft fairs that nanny had done for years such as Mells Daffodil Fair, Nunney Street Fair and Bruton Fair, go on her holidays, drive her car, carry on with her job caring for people who she adored, going out picking blackberry's to make the most delicious blackberry jam with, feeding her chickens and growing new vegetables, reading her books, seeing her family, cooking for her family, learning even more than nanny already knew in that intelligent mind she had... the list is endless. A couple of days before nanny passed i visited her after not seeing her for a while due to uni, mum said to me 'you might get upset when you see and hear nanny'.. and it was utterly heartbreaking to hear nanny the morning i woke up in the room next to her, she sounded like a completely different person. There were mumbles and she sounded lost when all she was trying to do was go to the toilet. My heart sunk because of how much worse i could hear the cancer had affected her brain.. One of my best memories of nanny was whenever i used to stay around her house on a saturday night, i'd wake up on the Sunday morning and hop into bed with her at 6 in the morning, petal would bring up a cuppa tea and a couple of mcvities rich tea biscuits and we'd both quietly be reading Ideal Home magazine or another interior magazine for about an hour and then we'd leave to go to the carboot and grab some bargains! Anyway, i won't say much more. I just thoroughly miss my beautiful nanny pammy and it doesn't feel real yet. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Now. My nanny was a big fan of charity shops and carboots and has been throughout her entire life and also used to buy and sell antiques and collectables not only at fairs but in her own shop simply named 'Pam Churchill'. In more recent years vintage clothing was something else nanny collected. So Petal had so many bits n bobs left in sheds and garages that i had a rummage in to see if there's anything i'd like to keep before i went back to uni again, so here are some things i'm going to treasure from nannys collections..
Firstly, this absolutely gorgeous African carved wooden necklace, i absolutely adore it.

Another wicker basket, nanny has loads, i especially like the shape of this one..
Rag rug, mum said aslong as i finish it off and keep it forever!
This gorgeous seventies vintage paisley throw was one nanny actually used on her sofa during the seventies, amazing! I hope to do the same soon..
This carpet bag, i am totally in love with it. It will never ever ever leave my sight.
A small wool patchwork blanket which i'm going to sew into one snuggly bigger pillow :)

A really really cute mini basket eeek i will probably put make-up in here or just use it as another threads basket. I will definitely use it as a little handbag* soon though.. * i hate the word handbag
And finally a gorgeous blanket that i'm curled up in right now, it's so utterly warm!
Nanny: *Burps loudly*
Hazel: I beg your pardon pamela, that's not a ladylike thing to do.
Nanny: I'm a woman not a lady.
